Description:

Overview

Screen2ipcam is a Windows application that publishes a PC screen as a standard IP camera using ONVIF Profile S and H.264 RTSP. The software is designed to integrate a Windows desktop or a specific display output into existing network video recorder (NVR) or video management system (VMS) environments without additional capture hardware. Available for Windows 7 through Windows 11, including 32- and 64-bit editions and several embedded Windows variants, the product positions itself as a software-only alternative to capture cards and hardware encoders.

Purpose and practical applications

Designed to make any Windows screen visible to conventional surveillance infrastructure, the application targets scenarios where a screen needs to be monitored or recorded alongside camera feeds. Typical applications cited include point-of-sale terminals, educational and exam monitoring, industrial control screens such as SCADA and HMI, dashboards and signage capture, remote branch workstations, and healthcare monitoring equipment. The software is positioned for use wherever the ability to record or stream a screen within an NVR/VMS ecosystem is beneficial, replacing the need for physical video capture devices.

Supported standards and recorder compatibility

Screen2ipcam implements ONVIF Profile S for discovery and interoperability with conforms NVRs/VMS, and it offers RTSP streaming in H.264 format. The product provides both main and substreams as well as JPEG snapshot support via the GetSnapshotUri operation, enabling direct compatibility with recorders that expect standard camera interfaces. The website lists a number of recorder and VMS products explicitly identified as compatible, including Blue Iris, Milestone XProtect, Agent DVR, XMEye and other ONVIF or RTSP-capable systems.

Key features

ONVIF Profile S: WS-Discovery auto-discovery and manual IP add options for NVR integration.

RTSP H.264 streaming: Video streams presented in H.264 with main and substream options and JPEG snapshot support.

Audio support: Desktop audio streaming to the recorder using G.711; audio is an optional feature introduced in a later update and runs only while a stream is being consumed.

On-screen overlays: Camera name, date and time can be shown on the output with configurable corner, colour, size and transparency. An optional alert can notify a local PC user when the screen is being viewed.

Service or tray operation: Can run as an always-on Windows service (starting before user sign-in) or as a tray application for interactive control.

Configuration options: Native control panel, browser-based configuration panel, and direct config-file editing. The interface is bilingual (English and Arabic).

Lightweight footprint: Promoted as low CPU and memory usage, with native C++ implementation and a static runtime, avoiding the need for .NET or other redistributables.

Installation and deployment

Installers for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows are provided, together with a free 14-day trial using the same installer as the full edition; a license unlocks the trial installation. Distribution is available via the developer website, the Microsoft Store (signed by Microsoft), and SourceForge mirrors. A dedicated edition is available for systems using VPNs or multiple networks. A user guide (PDF) and setup instructions are provided for quick start and configuration steps.

Licensing and delivery

License options described on the official site include a lifetime, single-device license model. Activation ties the license to a device identifier obtained from the running application. Volume licensing is available for multi-device deployments, with a separate pricing route for five devices or more. Payments and license delivery are handled online, and activation involves pasting a license file into the application to remove trial watermarks. A Microsoft Store free edition and SourceForge downloads are listed as alternative distribution methods.

Usability and configuration

The application offers several configuration paths: a native control panel for local management, a web panel for remote configuration, and direct configuration via a file. The option to run as a service supports unattended deployments and environments where a logged-in session may not be available. On-screen alerts and overlays provide operational visibility for local users, which can help with compliance or awareness in shared environments. Bilingual UI support and an accompanying PDF guide are provided to aid installation and setup.

Security and software distribution

Distribution channels include the Microsoft Store and SourceForge, which are noted as signed and mirrored sources. The Microsoft Store listing indicates a signed package and automatic update capability. SourceForge hosting is referenced for users who prefer that mirror. The vendor materials state that the product requires no external activation server and that licensing is managed via local device identifiers.

Versioning and recent updates

Documentation on the site highlights a notable update adding audio streaming so that a recorder receives not only video but also system audio alongside camera metadata such as name and timestamps. Other listed improvements include on-screen extras and broader recorder support. Specific release files for installers are available from the project pages and download mirrors.

Operational considerations

Screen2ipcam is intended to be used within existing NVR/VMS infrastructures and relies on recorder support for ONVIF and RTSP standards. Deployment choices include running the software interactively or as a Windows service. Overlays, alerting and audio are optional features that can be enabled to match operational needs. Volume licensing and multi-site delivery options are provided for larger deployments.

Documentation and support

Support materials on the developer site include a full user guide in PDF format, setup instructions and an online contact mechanism for licensing and assistance. Bilingual support in English and Arabic is promoted as part of the product offering, and the site lists direct support channels and guidance for binding a license to a specific device identifier.
